What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly beer column.

We’ve brewed up quite a bit of news so all you beer thirsty folks can be in the know about recent news and actually have something fun to do with your weekend other than sitting on the couch stuffing your face with Doritos and binging on Netflix.

Fall is in full swing so we’re seeing lots of pumpkin, maple, different spices, apples, Oktoberfests and other autumn brews from the breweries! Now hold on to your mugs because we’re ready to tap this thing! But first check out what you missed last week:

All last week was RVA Beer Week with a lot of craft beer events going on around town and local bars, restaurants and breweries.

RVA basically had their yearly freak out/melt down because Hardywood released its Gingerbread Stout. Get some if you haven’t, its Christmas in your mouth!

And Ardent Craft Ales released its mouth-watering Barrel-aged Dark Rye.

Now onto this week’s booze news:

Center of the Universe turns three this weekend and the Ashland brewery is throwing down big. Three days of great beer, live music and more. On Friday, The Richard Imperial IPA returns. Weighing in at 9% ABV the aggressive IPA has a sweet malt base, balanced out by four different hops. On Sat. Nov. 14, COTU will be tapping a dozen hard to find beers from some of their partners in Homefront IPA: Cigar City Brewing, 21st Amendment Brewing, Maui Brewing Company, Left Hand Brewing, Perennial Artisan Ales, and Stone Brewing Company.

On Sunday COTU wraps up celebrations with a cookie, cheese and beer Pairing featuring COTU brews paired with cookies from Sugar Fix Cookies, and select cheeses from The Caboose. This is a ticketed event, with seatings at 2pm and 4pm. Tickets are available at the tasting room. This event will sell out ahead of time.

Hardywood will release its Classic Loaf Nov. 14 which is a highly effervescent saison brewed with spelt, raw Virginia wheat and crusty bread from our friends at Sub Rosa Bakery located in Church Hill.

Also on Saturday, the brewery will release Batch 4 of its RPG IPA, an American Black IPA in celebration of venerated Richmond hard rock group RPG.

Call the brewery for tickets.
