What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly beer column.

It’s been a few weeks since you’ve heard from us, I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday break and ready to jump into this new year because we’ve got a lot of booze news brewing! So with that, let’s tap this thing!

Strangeways Brewing will release its new brew, Freeze Ray Eisbock this Sat. Jan. 9. This beer is thick and creamy and interlaced with a prevalent chocolaty richness.

The whole month of January, Strangeways will also be supporting the Pink Ink Fund. The brewery will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a $100 VIP Beer Tray— all month long, all to benefit Pink Ink. A winner will be chosen at the end of their CHEERS FOR CHARITY social which will be sometime this month. This is such an awesome charity. Check out our interview with tattoo artist Amy Black about Pink Ink Fund here.

This Thursday, Jan. 7, Isley Brewing will host its first Winter Ball. It’s a fun way to kick off the new year! There will be a white elephant Gift Exchange so bring in a wrapped gift if you want to get in on that. Isley will also be serving up beer inspired hors d’oeuvres. Cocktail attire is encouraged so go get all fancy! 4-9 pm.

Ardent releases its newest brew Rye Kolsh today at 5 pm at Commercial Taphouse.

Center of the Universe Brewing in Ashland will release its Ray Ray’s Oak Aged brew this Sat. Jan. 9. The beer has hints of Vanilla and Peach on top of some hoppy notoes!

Chesterfield’s firt stand alone production brewery, Steam Bell Beer Works has been hard at work the last couple months putting the finishing touches on the brewery. They are slated to open sometime in January or February. Check out our story on it here and follow their progress here!

The Veil, a new brewery which also plans to open soon in Scotts Addition, recently gave us a sneak peek at some of the beers they will be serving up. Get your tastebuds ready for Master Shredder, a Wheat IPA, Crucial Taunt, a Double IPA, Hornswoggler, a Robust Chocolate Milk Stout, and Sleeping Forever, an Imperial Stout. Stay tuned for more news on the brewery!
