What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.

So tomorrow, (Thursday) is St. Patrick’s Day and the streets will be filled with people dressed in their finest green garb and drinking plenty of green and Guinness. You can check out our list of St. Patrick’s Day events for tomorrow and the upcoming weekend here. We’ve also gathered together festivities from the local breweries to see if they’re celebrating as only the Irish can.
So hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap thing thing!
On Saturday, Hardywood will release its Hoplar Imperial IPA which is a dry-hopped IPA conditioned on Virginia tulip poplar wood.

Strangeways recently released a Samoa Porter brew, a collaboration with Sugar Shack donuts. It’s caramely, chocately flavors make it taste just like a Samoa! Read our interview with Strangeways and Sugar Shack on the brew here.

This coming Saturday will mark the return of Defenstratrator Doppelbock at Ardent Craft Ales.

Isley Brewing over in Scott’s Addition is throwing a St. Patrick’s Day Festival starting Thursday March 17th through Saturday March 19th. The celebration will feature multiple beer releases including Green Plain Jane, Mango Habanero Irish Red Ale Infusion, This Ain’t Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Porter bottle release, music from Dance Candy, Anthony Williams, Fool’s Errand, and food from The Return of the Mac as well as Stuffed Bunz RVA serving up Reubens! Sounds liek a party to me.
Blue Bee Cider will release its Harrison cider this Saturday, the 19th. The second in their Heirloom series, Harrison contains 100% Harrison cider apples. Harrison was the leading cider apple in the Mid-Atlantic and Eastern U.S. throughout the early 1800s-1900s until nearly going extinct. Camden’s Dogtown Market will be serving British-inspired foods from 1-5 p.m.

Tomorrow on St. Patrick’s Day, The Answer Brewpub will have a Terrapin Coffee Stout and brownie pairing. Yum! Taste four single origin coffees from around the world each brewed with the same base stout. The brewpub will also be offering a brownie pairing to go along with your flight from Sweet Intentions. Check out the beer flight: Hawaiian Kona, Guatemalan Huehuetenango, Ethiopa Hambela and Sumatra Wahana Natural.

Lickinghole Creek will release Illuminatos, a rum barrel vanilla Russian imperial stout this Saturday.

On Monday, March 21st, Garden Grove Brewing will host a beer dinner at their Carytown brewery. CHef Philip Denny from new restaurant Castanea will serve a five course meal paired with Garden Grove brews. $38 plus tax & tip. Get your tickets here.
