What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.

Our cup is overflowing with news this week, but first head over here to check out what you missed last week.

Spring is on its way, which means warmer weather and drinking beers on the patio and beer festivals. We’re not quite there, but in the mean time while we wait for that sunshine to get here the local breweries in town brewed up some cool events for us.

Now hold to your mugs craft beer lovers, because we’re about to tap this thing!

Triple Crossing is hosting its second homebrewer competition soon and the final beer drop off date is this Sat. March 5 at 12 pm so get your tastiest recipe ready for entry! Entries are limited s to 1 beer per person.
You must provide 3 bottles of the beer for tasting and judging. The winner will have their beer brewed and served in the tasting room!

On Friday, March 4th, Isley will release its Spiced Apple Mos Eisley Brown Ale Infusion.

Thursday, March 3rd The Answer Brewpub is bringing back its Triple IPA, Megablast. It was crafted as part of Mekong’s 20th anniversary and is brewed with Citra and Mosaic hops.

The long-awaited Despot Day at Lickinghole Creek is finally upon us. The Goochland farm brewery will celebrate the return of the Enlightened Depot with a bottle release. Now these bottles have all been pre-sold due to the popularity of the event, but the brewery will have Despot Specialty Pins, Guest Taps, Enlightened Despot, Hug the Despot and Awaken the Despot on draft, four food trucks and three entertaining bands. They will also have heated tents so you can enjoy the festivities. Check out more on the event here.

Center of the Universe in Ashland will release its Bourbon Barrel Aged Great Scotch, an imperial ale aged in Bourbon barrels bringing forth aromas and flavors of vanilla and bourbon. Barrel Aged Great Scotch offers a smoky, roasted character balanced by a touch of sweetness.

Strangeways Brewing is packed with beer releases this weekend. They are bringing the craft beer lovers of RVA a new beer series called the Rarities with a TRIPLE RELEASE!! The Rarities is a series of lab only releases of your favorite Strangeways brews – with a Barrel Aged twist. A new beer will be added to this series on the first Friday of every month in a very limited quantity.

They are kicking off this new series Friday at 11 am with the following beers: Woodbooger Belgian-Style Brown Ale with Brett, Just Say Go Black Belgian Tripel with Ghost Pepper and Kentucky Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Gourd of Thunder Pumpkin Porter.
