What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.

Our cup is overflowing with news this week, but first head over here to check out what awesome brews were released in Richmond last weekend.

We’ve got a new cidery, new releases, and a RVA brewery opening up a new location packed into this week’s Tapped so hold on to your mugs because we’re about to tap this thing!

Buskey Cider opened last week in Scott’s Addition, throwing its hat into the craft scene here in Richmond and adding to our little cider scene here. Stop by their location at 2910 W. Leigh St. and sip on some hard cider. Stay tuned for an interview on the cidery coming up soon!

Some other pretty cool big news is Richmond brewers and breweries will be featured in a new travel and lifestyle tv program, “Hoppy Trails.” It tells their stories and what makes Richmond such a great town for craft beer and the screening for that will take place Monday, May 2nd at The Answer Brewpub. You can read our interview with the producers here.

Isley Brewing will release a Bourbon S’Mores Porter, another one of its infusions this Friday, the 29th. Two of my favorite things put together!

The brewery will also release its Voodoo Lady Red Imperial IPA on Monday, May 2nd. It’s hoppy and has a deep amber color, and a malt body with caramel and toasty flavors

Stone Brewing and Triple Crossing have collaborated on a new brew called Fulton Pride which they will release Saturday at Triple Crossing’s Foushee Street brewery. This brew is a version of the classic UK pub ale that gets Equinox, Simcoe, and Citra hops which are layered in over top Simpson’s Double Roasted Crystal and Thomas Fawcett Golden Promise malts. Fulton Pride is a celebration of Triple Crossing opening a location in Fulton Hill. Read our story on that here.

Strangeways is getting into the Halloween spirit a little early this Friday and Saturday with their SPRING-O-WEEN event. Join the brewery for an Escape Room, live music, costumes, and of course beer. For the espcape room, your group of four people will be given 5 minutes to help Alice find the key to the rabbit hole. Do you have the smarts and cunning to figure out the puzzles throughout the room? The escape room will be located in the back tasting room. Tickets are $5.

Garden Grove Brewing in Carytown has announced its next Beer Dinner Monday, May 16th featuring the Blue Goat’s new Executive Chef Paul Kostandin (formerly of Birch & Barley, the beer mecca in DC). Half the seats have already sold out, so make sure you get yours if you missed out the last few the brewery had. Five courses will be paired with five GG brews. Tickets are $38 and you can get yours here.

The brewery is releasing WILD CHILD – a barrel fermented experimentation in Wild Rice & Multi-Grain brewing this week. It has a delicious earthy, smoky, roasted character with a clean, dry bite to the finish. Go give it a try!

Hardywood has announced plans to open up a brewery and taproom in Charlottesville. It will be between UVA and the Downtown Mall and is slated to open sometime in September. Read our coverage on that here.

And last, but certainly not least, is a new local podcast we’ve stumbled upon that discusses one of the things we love most! Geeks Under the Influence is a podcast devoted to “spirited” debate about a different geeky topic every week! We have a rotating panel of nerds ready to discuss your favorite obsessions over some drinks. Booze, Comic, Film, Music recommendations a plenty! We will be posting it on our site each week so be on the lookout for it!

To submit news or ideas to Tapped, please email amy@rvamag.com. Cheers!

And no, it’s not made from oranges.. The first time I encountered orange wine (or skin contact white wine), I was wowed by the color and it’s presentation. It’s gorgeous. This beautiful, amber-hued liquid danced around the edges of my swirling wine glass. I gave it a...
