What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly beer column.

We’ve brewed up quite a bit of news so all you beer thirsty folks can get in the know about recent news like, Final Gravity brewery opening and Starr Hill’s Sweet 16 party. It may not be Virginia Craft Beer Month anymore (sigh), but that doesn’t mean we don’t have plenty of beer news for ya! So hold on to your mugs because we’re ready to tap this thing!

Here are some fun events you missed last weekend:

Lickinghole Creek brought back their much anticipated and limited Bourbon Barrel Tripel, 11.3% ABV with notes of citrus, lemon-lime, honey and coconut are rounded out with the smooth flavor of Bourbon. Luckily, I was there to get there before they ran out. Check out the place below.

On Aug. 27 Final Gravity the brewing arm of Lakeside home brew supply store Original Gravity held its soft opening. They opened up with nine drafts on tap. We didnt make it out to taste test the beers, but be on the lookout for a story from us on them!

This Monday Sept. 7 The Answer Brewpub is celebrating Labor Day with a “Summer meets Fall” night. Pumpkin beers are taking over the brewpub, along with a special end-of-summer menu prepared by The Answer staff. Mekong Xpress & The Get Fresh Horns will be providing the tunes starting at 9:30!

Check out the delicious brews they’ll have available:
Saucony Creek Maple Mistress Ale, The Bruery Autumn Maple, Ballast Point Pumpkin Down AleWerks Pumpkin, Schlafly Pumpkin, Heavy Seas Greater Pumpkin, Brothers 8 Bells
Southern Tier Warlock and Southern Tier Pumpking.

The brewpub is also turning one in a few weeks and will be throwing down big for that so be on the lookout for a story and details on the party!

Join Ardent Craft Ales this Sat. Sept. 5 for the release of their Barrel Aged Dark Rye. available for the first time this season in 750 mL bottles! All day beginning at Non until close at 10 p.m.

Strangeways is offering extended steal the vessel and refill specials through Labor Day. Come in through September 7th and you can Steal the Grunt, Growler, CanAble, or to-go Blue Ball pint jar with the purchase of a fill! Already have plenty? Then just bring in your Strangeways to go containers for specials on refills.

This Thurs. Sept 3. Strangeways will also have an Uberlin Invasion!!! The brewery will have FOUR NEW ÜBERLIN FLAVORS so go build you a flight of goodness my friend.

Lickinghole Creek will release their Darjeeling Tripel this Saturday Sept 5. It’s a Belgian-Style Tripel Ale 9.3% ABV. Check out the description: “American grown sterling and New Zealand Grown Motueka Hops that help impart a lemon and lime characteristic with a hint of tropical fruit. Multiple hop additions throughout the boil create a textured, full flavor and authentic Darjeeling Tea provides a hint of mystery.” 12-9 pm.

Fall Brews at The Diamond! Four local breweries are bringing some fall beers out for tastings as you watch the Flying Squirrels play some ball. Hardywood, Strangeways, Center of the Universe, and Bold Rock are coming out with some brews. This is a special package that the Flying Squirrels are offering which includes the tasting, food, and a field level ticket to the game!

The three beers and ciders are: Hardywood – Gingerbread Stout, Bold Rock – IPA (new!!!), COTU – Oktoberfest, and Strangeways – Gourd of Thunder Imperial Pumpkin Porter.

It isn’t local, but I think this is a big deal to mention. Starr Hill is turning 16 and they want you to celebrate their Sweet 16 with them all month long. new and limited release beers, tastings, live music, and more from now until the end of September. This Saturday they will release Hopfetti, a Triple IPA in celebration of their birthday. Party details here!

Starr Hill Brewery is also still hosting its Cheers for Charity for the Boys & Girls Club through the end of this month as well. $1 for every pint of beer sold, every day, is donated to the Boys & Girls Club.

Hardywood is celebating the next installment of their brewer and artist series this Saturday Sept. 5 with a Lämmergeier, a dry farmhouse saison brewed with local organic cage free cucumber and hand selected Tettnag and Amarillo hops, then re-fermented and aged in American white oak barrels.They will be celebrating the work of Chris Rommel and Tyler Thomas and of course have live music to go along with it.
