Afrikana Independent Film Festival

The second Annual Afrikana Independent Film Festival starts tomorrow and will continue till Sunday.

The festival kicks off on Thursday with the opening night reception at the Black History Museum. Featuring the premier of OWN’s reality series CHECKED INN and the talk with the artist talk with Monique Greenwood.

The reception begins at 7 P.M.

Friday will be featuring the premier of award winning documentary, Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary, celebrating the Jazz artist’s life and narrated by Denzel Washington. Panel discussion will  follow the film with the Talib Kweli, J Plunky Branch and Lorna Pinckney. An after party with follow with Talib Kweli DJ’ing.

Doors open at 6:30 P.M.

Saturday there will be several short programs at several locations from noon till 5 – P.M :

Ending with the screening of an episode of the HBO series, Insecure at the Grace Street Theatre

Doors open at 7 P.m.

The Official Afrikana Afterparty will take place at the HofGarden for the with DJ AMANDA SEALES on the turntables.

Malik Hall is a RVA native and received his Bachelors of Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Minor in Media Studies. Writing wasn't big on his radar until he took a science journalism class in college and since then he found it as a perfect outlet for himself. Skateboarding is his favorite hobby outside of his new found love for writing.
