Air Sex Championships return to bring the raunch, comedy, and pelvic storytelling to Smatter on Friday

It’s that time of year again where all of your quirky, animialistic, or maybe even slightly awkward bedroom skills to be displayed on stage for all to see at the annual Air Sex Championships this weekend at Strange Matter.

The touring event is once again hosted by Coalition Theater along with ANIMAL RVA, and can only be described as a hybrid mix of a sporting event, comedy show, and sex spectacular.

Those that think they’ve mastered their bedroom skills can sign up with a chosen stage name and song of choice, you take the stage in front of a panel of judges and well, basically reenact your fantasy…or the awkward sexual encounter that is your daily life.

“They get on stage and they fuck something that we can’t see,” said comedian and founding member Chris Trew.

It’s all about your imagination and your pelvic storytelling. At the end of the night, one lucky contestant will be crowned “Richmond’s Air Sex Champion.”

It doesn’t end there for the one who thrusts, humps or defiles the air the best. A local sex shop donates the grand prize for the evening, and the champion will have the chance to fight for their title at the National Air Sex Championship event hosted in Austin in December.

And if you’re an air-sex beginner, not to fret, no experience is required.

“You don’t have to be trained in improv to do this, because you can get up there on a whim and as long you show commitment to whatever you’re doing, maybe it’s not this beautiful story arch, but we get that you are jerking off nine dicks and they all came in your eye at the same time, anyone can do that, as long as they show commitment,” said Trew in a past interview with RVA Mag.

Trew is a well experienced comedian who made everyone feel uncomfortable with his idea of Air sex on America’s Got Talent audition and has since been gracing stages all across America with his competition. In his nine years of hosting this competition, it continues to entertain, arouse, and offend people.

On top of that (or bottom,if it’s your preference), there isn’t quite anything else like this event out there.

“We’re combining so many things that people enjoy,” Trew said. “We’re combining comedy with sex to provide an energetic educational show that consistently surprises people. It can be both raunchy and really enlightening.”

The Air Sex Championships will kick off the raunch at Strange Matter this Friday, Oct. 21. The show starts at 10 pm and Animal RVA will host a dance party from 12 am to 2 am. To compete for the Air Sex Champion title, sign up here or throw your name in the “Fuck Bucket” the night of the show. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here.
