Black Liquid talks local hip hop and kicks some rhymes on Cut The Cord Radio

Local internet radio podcast Cut The Cord Radio is back with another of their unique interviews with a Richmond musical figure, and once again, it’s necessary listening. Last Thursday evening, Black Liquid, accompanied by compatriot BCMusic1st, spoke to Cut The Cord host Tyler Matthews and sound engineer James Seretis about all kinds of things, all related to hip hop.

Last Thursday evening, Black Liquid, accompanied by compatriot BCMusic1st, spoke to Cut The Cord host Tyler Matthews and sound engineer James Seretis about all kinds of things, all related to hip hop. If you’ve never heard Black Liquid in conversation before, the fast and furious flow of words and ideas is always impressive–very appropriate for a guy who at one point in his career was cranking out raps at an intense pace as well (he once released 12 full-length albums in one year).

More recently, though, Liq has been slowing down with the releases, taking a two-year break after the release of 2012’s The Black Experience. That all changed last week with the release of his newest project, Title, an album constructed entirely from Fiona Apple samples. Tyler and Black Liq discuss this new project, as well as their experiences working with WRIR, seeing live performances by the Wu-Tang Clan (or at least some of them), and just exactly what the deal is with local rapper Goad Gatsby. The whole show ends with a three-song live performance featuring two tracks from Title and a warm-up exercise rapped over Booker T & the MGs’ “Green Onions.” Listen to the whole thing below (though not while you’re at work, because profanity is allowed–perhaps even encouraged–on Cut The Cord Radio):
