Local internet radio podcast Cut The Cord Radio is back with another of their unique interviews with a Richmond musical figure, and once again, it’s necessary listening. Local internet radio podcast Cut The Cord Radio is back with another of their unique interviews with a Richmond musical figure, and once again, it’s necessary listening. Last Thursday evening, Black Liquid, accompanied by compatriot BCMusic1st, spoke to Cut The Cord host Tyler Matthews and sound engineer James Seretis about all kinds of things, all related to hip hop. If you’ve never heard Black Liquid in conversation before, the fast and furious flow of words and ideas is always impressive–very appropriate for a guy who at one point in his career was cranking out raps at an intense pace as well (he once released 12 full-length albums in one year).

More recently, though, Liq has been slowing down with the releases, taking a two-year break after the release of 2012’s The Black Experience. That all changed last week with the release of his newest project, Title, an album constructed entirely from Fiona Apple samples. Tyler and Black Liq discuss this new project, as well as their experiences working with WRIR, seeing live performances by the Wu-Tang Clan (or at least some of them), and just exactly what the deal is with local rapper Goad Gatsby. The whole show ends with a three-song live performance featuring two tracks from Title and a warm-up exercise rapped over Booker T & the MGs’ “Green Onions.” Listen to the whole thing below (though not while you’re at work, because profanity is allowed–perhaps even encouraged–on Cut The Cord Radio):

Remember, Cut The Cord is broadcast live every Thursday night at 7 PM; listen this and every week at cutthecordradio.com. You can also follow the show on twitter @CutTheCordRadio, or on facebook at facebook.com/CutTheCordRadio.

As discussed on the show, Black Liquid will be performing with Wu-Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck at The Broadberry on Friday, October 3. Tickets are $15 in advance and can be ordered HERE. You can download all of Black Liquid’s music, including his latest release, Title, for free at noisetrade.com/blackliq.
