Celebrate Record Store Day 2012 with Plan 9

by | Apr 19, 2012 | MUSIC

Now in its fifth year, Record Store Day celebrates the unique culture of independently-owned record stores and the communities that support them–those who love exploring, owning, and collecting music. Record labels contribute the freebies and the special releases, and many national and local bands make it a point to play in a record store on Record Store Day. Luckily for us, Richmond has several record store’s that have already signed on board to participate in some of the festivities – BK Music, Deep Groove Records, Steady Sounds, Turnstyle, Vinyl Conflict, and Plan 9. While not all stores will receive all limited-edition Record Store Day releases, our friends over at Plan 9 have let us in on some of the surprises you can expect from them.

This Saturday, set your alarm early, because this year’s list includes releases from Ryan Adams, Arcade Fire, Beach House, Phish, Devo, Flaming Lips, Fun., Buck Owens, Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, Civil Wars, and Uncle Tupelo. There are many 45’s, colored vinyl, picture discs, and even a few cds, a throwback to Plan 9’s early years of mostly vinyl of all stripes, and a few cds. A link to the complete list can be found at www.plan9music.com. The list is long but the pressings are very limited. It’s one-per-customer, first-come-first-served, so collectors will line up before the doors open to get a shot at their must-have titles.

In addition to nearly 200 limited releases, both Plan 9 Richmond and Plan 9 Charlottesville have in-store performances scheduled for the eager fans that’ll be in attendance. As of now the lineups are as follows;
