After the successful crowd sourcing of the Foo Fighters RVA Campaign, lead singer Dave Grohl says crowd sourced shows may “change the game” of touring.
“The last time we played Richmond, VA was 1998 because we always go to DC. It’s the next biggest city. Can’t go everywhere. So this dude and his friends started this campaign to have us come to Richmond. He made this Youtube thing and a Facebook page, something like that. I don’t know any of that stuff, I’m too old.” Grohl tells 5Fm in South Africa. “So, he starts it and says we are going to bring the Foo Fighters to Richmond Virginia. I want to sell 1500 tickets to a concert that doesn’t even exist! If I sell 1500 tickets I am going to get the Foo Fighters to come. If they say no everyone gets their money back!”
The RVA show has not been booked but the upcoming Foo Fighters tour, which includes stops in South Africa, will have a stop in Richmond, VA.
“So I guess we are playing Richmond,” Grohl continues. “I’m telling you, it could become the way that bands decide where they want to play. It’s a fun thing; it sort of changes the game. For the past 20 years, we always decided who we’re going to play with and where we’re going to play. But now, if we hear that people want us to come somewhere, maybe we’ll come there.”
