Southern hip hop legends Nappy Roots come to Broadberry tonight

It might’ve been a few years since you’ve thought of Nappy Roots and their brand of dirty southern hip hop, but you’ll get your chance to relive the ‘watermelon, chicken and grtiz’ tonight at the Broadberry.

It might’ve been a few years since you’ve thought of Nappy Roots and their brand of dirty southern hip hop, but you’ll get your chance to relive the ‘watermelon, chicken and grtiz’ tonight at the Broadberry.

The Nappy Roots started in Augusta, GA, back in the early 90s. Made up of Skinny DeVille, B. Stille, Ron Clutch and Fish Scales, the group rode the 00s hiphop train to a number of chart topping tracks like the one below, “Awnaw.”

You might also remember 2006’s “Po’Folks” which tapped into the complex relationship Black folks have in the context of low income southern neighborhoods.

Beyond those releases, they’ve still been busy dropping mixtapes and the like. And last year they dropped a new record, The 40 Akerz Project, where the band honored their independent roots as well as their place in todays racially complicated society.

Check out “No Idea” below:

You can see the Nappy Roots tonight at The Broadberry along side McKinley Dixon, Adam Jackson and JostoD.
