Are you a fan of blues, soul, and loud rock n’ roll? If so, you should certainly be familiar already with both of the artists that will be arriving at Charlottesville’s Jefferson Theater to work their musical magic next Saturday, February 21. The North Mississippi Allstars are led by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, sons of legendary Memphis producer and pianist Jim Dickinson. For his part, Luther’s done time in the Black Crowes as well, but the North Mississippi Allstars is his true musical love, and he and his brother, along with bassist Chris Drew, really tear things up on their extensive discography. See exactly what I’m talking about on this video from their latest album, 2013’s World Boogie Is Coming:

Anders Osborne isn’t descended from musical royalty like the North Mississippi Allstars, but he’s got an even more extensive discography, with a flawless track record for soulful blues power. He can go from raging heavy distortion to gorgeously melancholy acoustic tunefulness, and you can see both extremes in the title track from his latest album, 2013’s Peace (yeah, it’s audio only–this guy doesn’t seem to put too much stock in making videos):

What you’ll see if you make it out to the Jefferson Theater next Saturday isn’t so much a co-headlining tour featuring two distinct sets, one from each of these acts, as a combined performance by a group featuring both of them, which they call NMO (North Mississippi Osborne, I’m guessing). It’s not something there’s much precedent or recorded evidence for, but it’s sure to generate quite a few unique musical moments, and you’re gonna want to be there for all of them!
