Powerhouse Avail Headlines a Killer Night in ‘Over The James’ 2023

Sweeping into Brown’s Island, the now-annual Over The James showcase ignited the night, with local legends AVAIL leading the charge. Amidst the sweltering heat and an unforgiving sun that emerged after a summer rain, thousands of fans converged, their energy crackling like a high school reunion electrified by rock ‘n’ roll.

Avail, delivering a relentless powerhouse set headlined an unforgettable night filled with killer performances. Joining the lineup were a mishmash of rock brilliance, from the anthemic echoes of The Gaslight Anthem to the hardcore intensity of Snapcase. Add one of our personal favorites in Strike Anywhere along with City of The Caterpillar, and Dragonship — this show gets better every year.

And capturing every minute was photographer Michael Thorn.

I created Richmond, Virginia’s culture publication RVA Magazine and brought the first Richmond Mural Project to town. Designed the first brand for the Richmond’s First Fridays Artwalk and promoted the citywide “RVA” brand before the city adopted it as the official moniker. I threw a bunch of parties. Printed a lot of magazines. Met so many fantastic people in the process. Professional work: www.majormajor.me
