Friday at Gallery 5, Richmond Noise celebrates a year of its monthly installments. Originally, these free/donations-based gigs took place one Sunday a month at The Nile, and were put together by RVA NOISE FEST organizers Gary Stevens (Head Molt/Mutwawa/Rotted Ear/Anti-Everything Noise) and Matt Boettke (Scant/Daggering/Candle Haus). These nights included locals spewing a range of fringe genres encompassed by the larger title of “noise”: power electronics, drone, goth/industrial, nu-house, tape loops, circuit-bent televisions, Harsh Noise Wall, avant garde cut ups, psychedelic hellscapes, basement gamelan, abrasive free-jazz, sci-fi soundtrack synth excursions, and academic art installation pieces all got a hearing at RVA Noise Nights.

Stevens and Boettke also brought in unique touring acts like West Virginian hallucinatory mad man Zack Kouns, along with the free-jazz Beefheart space punk splattering of Temple of Bon Matin (who recorded LPs for Siltbreeze in the 90s and to this day still backs up members of the Sun Ra Arkestra in Philly).

This Friday night, come fill Gallery 5 for Noise Night #13. The show is free (with donations accepted for touring bands), all ages, and features twelve acts performing between 7:00 – 10:45; followed by an afterparty at Strange Matter with even more noise/drone/electronic freakitude.
