Whether it’s one inch of snow of two feet, it’s happening!

Whether it’s one inch of snow of two feet, it’s happening! Rock-roots band Big Mama Shakes is throwing a release party for their new single, “Weight of a Heavy Heart” at The Camel this Saturday January 23rd.

Having released their debut album, As She Does, in the summer after a string of singles, Big Mama Shakes has been selling out numerous shows. Gaining fast recognition in our area and even D.C, their new single will premiere on XL102 the Friday morning it comes drops.

Formed from smaller and independent projects that came together into one, Big Mama Shakes is only starting to rumble the music scene in our area. With premiere talent with their soulful vocals intertwined from influences of rock and roots sounds, the attention they are getting from our areas and surrounding is well deserved.

This past year, Big Mama Shakes secured a spot through the Local Exposure competition with XL102 that gave the band an opportunity to perform at Big Field Day here in Richmond as openers for bands like Passion Pit and Incubus.

“We believe that we owe a lot of the success of the album to that event that we opened for at Big Field Day with XL102”, Band member Chandler Matkins said. “It was perfect timing”.

After the Big Field Day event, Big Mama Shakes proceeded to go on a two week tour along the east coast for their album release. Forming a good relationship with The Camel, the band has been playing a couple shows a month at the venue with further talks of setting up a residency there in March with first Thursdays.

“The five of us came together and we pulled all the talents that we thought best for the project, and all throughout we worked on the album with our original lineup,” Matkins said.

We see nothing but big things coming for Big Mama Shakes and their recognition and sold out shows are all works of their own, so brave the snowy weather this weekend and make it out to The Camel this Saturday January 23th for their single release show for “Weight of a Heavy Heart”.

RSVP on Facebook here, and be sure to make it out The Camel this Saturday for this anticipated Big Mama Shakes show!
