The Mad Extras are a new RVA band who’ve been picking up a buzz around town with some excellent live performances around town, and now this fun-loving quartet is about to release their debut EP, cheekily titled Best New Artist. They just sent us the brand new video for EP track “Nevermind The Nevermind,” and it’s a total blast.

Starting out with some weird screwed n’ chopped action, it might throw you a bit, but don’t worry, they’re just goofing around–the real song kicks in around the 30-second mark.

Like all of the songs on Best New Artist, “Nevermind The Nevermind” evokes a time from nearly 15 years ago (has it been that long? God, I’m getting old) when there were tons of great young rock n’ roll bands coming out of Brooklyn and everyone was getting hip to the sounds of The Strokes, The Walkmen, and the bands that influenced them (Television, The Kinks, The Modern Lovers, etc). The Mad Extras have their own take on that now-classic sound, and bust out a succession of catchy riffs and witty lyrics on this track, leading up to the irresistible chorus that you won’t be able to get out of your head no matter what you do. And of course, all the doll’s arm hijinks in the video are a ton of fun as well. Enjoy it below:

Now that you’ve dug that one song, you can head over to The Mad Extras’ website to hear another song from the EP, “Long Weird Night,” and to pre-order your own digital copy of Best New Artist for $5. And if you still haven’t seen these guys play live yet, good news: they’ve got two shows coming up in the next week! Catch them at Hardywood this Saturday for a free show with Long Arms and Sarah White & The Pearls. That show, celebrating the release of Hardywood’s new Bourbon Cru, kicks off at 5 PM on April 18, and is absolutely free! For more info, click here. Or if ya can’t make that, go see The Mad Extras on the day they release their new EP at Sound Of Music Studios with NYC bands Bellows and Sharpless–that’s Tuesday, April 21 at 7 PM, for the low low admission price of $5. For more info on that show, click here.
