Win Tickets To See Against Me At The Southern In Charlottesville!

Longrunning Florida punk band Against Me! made the news a couple of years ago for non-musical reasons, when singer/guitarist Laura Jane Grace went public with her transgender identity and first began living as a woman. These experiences also seemed to rejuvenate the band creatively, and 2014’s Transgender Dysphoria Blues is not only an unapologetic and unflinching documentation of Grace’s experiences with transitioning but also the best album Against Me has released in nearly a decade.

The band has taken advantage of their increased media profile and risen to the occasion with a classic slab of punk rock that will silence any hater. Witness this triumphant performance of the excellently titled “FuckMyLife666” on David Letterman earlier this year:

Laura Jane and company are taking that act on tour right now, and they’ll be at The Southern in nearby Charlottesville this very weekend. Wouldn’t seeing them be a great way to wrap up your week? I’ll bet the post-show high would carry you right through that hour’s drive back down 64. And they’ll be joined by folk-punk singer Jenny Owen Youngs and up-and-coming Philly postpunk/psych band Creepoid, which only sweetens the deal. So are you gonna be there? There’s only one correct answer to this question.
