Look out, all you rock n’ rollers–Southern rock/blues/soul kingpins JJ Grey & Mofro are returning to the central VA area next week to rock your faces off, and you could go see the show for free courtesy of your friends at RVA Mag! The band just released their ninth album, Ol’ Glory, today, their first for Provogue Records, and on it, they continue their winning formula of dynamic songwriting, moving from plaintive soulful pleas to huge, horn-driven full-band crescendos. You can hear them pulling off this exact trick on single “Every Minute,” which is every bit as uplifting as Otis Redding fed through the lens of prime-era Black Crowes (and we’re not just talking “Hard To Handle,” either). Check it out below:

For RVA fans, there’s a special bonus attraction to this one–local faves People’s Blues Of Richmond will be opening the show. This down and dirty trio has a rawer and more fiery approach than JJ Grey & Mofro, but they’ll certainly rock you just as hard. If you don’t already know, learn about it right now with this track, “Bad Railroad,” from their last LP, Good Time Suicide:

On the whole, if you’re looking for a great night of soulful blues rockin’ to liven up the middle of your work week, this Wednesday night showcase is the perfect remedy for what ails you. Get stoked!
