If you like outlaw country, classic Americana, or any other kind of great music, you should definitely be excited about this one. Justin Townes Earle is headed to Richmond in a couple of months, bringing his outstanding songs to the Modlin Center on Wednesday, February 25. Tickets go on sale this Friday–but your pals at RVA Mag have a pair that we’ll be giving away before they even go on sale!

We’ll have the details in a minute, but first let’s talk about this great guitar-slinging songwriter. Justin Townes Earle’s father is alt-country pioneer Steve Earle, and his godfather was the late, great Townes Van Zandt, but that excellent pedigree only tells part of his story. He got his start playing in Nashville rock bands and in his father’s backing band, but broke out as a solo artist with his 2007 debut EP, Yuma, released by Bloodshot Records. After four more albums on that mainstay of 21st century alt-country, he switched it up this year, signing to punk label Vagrant Records for his fifth full-length album, Single Mothers.

That album, which came out in September, will soon be followed by its counterpart, Absent Fathers, due for release in January. So by the time Earle makes it to Richmond, he’ll have two brand new albums to showcase. When he appeared on Tiny Desk Concerts for a solo set a couple of months ago, he was only doing songs from the then-brand-new Single Mothers, but what he played was riveting regardless. Check out that three-song set here:

Justin Townes Earle will be joined on his trip through Richmond by Louisiana singer/songwriter Gill Landry, who will be releasing a self-titled album in March 2015 on ATO Records. Landry’s better known for his group work as part of Old Crow Medicine Show, for whom he plays banjo and guitar. However, his solo work shows off a talented artist in his own right, and he’s sure to make an impression with his opening set at the Modlin Center.

Tickets for that show will go on sale Friday morning at 10 AM, priced at $25 apiece. You’ll be able to order them by clicking here, so bookmark that link–but before you do that, be sure you enter to win the pair of tickets to this show that we’ll be giving away before they go on sale! We’ll be picking the winner on Thursday at 4 PM, so you’ll know whether you’ve won by the next morning when tickets become available for purchase. Get your entries in now, because the only thing better than a great show is a great show you didn’t have to pay for!
