We just got beer delivered from Amazon – so that’s pretty cool

Amazon, the nation’s largest, rapidly growing online retailer, has been delivering products within hours here in RVA for a few months now, but they’ve added beer and it works as expected.

According to a statement from Amazon, the company now offers “hundreds of alcohol-related products” as part of their Amazon Prime Now one or two hour delivery service.

“Customers in Richmond are already loving the service,” they said, which we obviously agree too *takes sip of beer*.

To sweeten the deal, they do offer a number of RVA and Virginia craft beer brands like Hardywood, Legend and Strangeways. Devil’s Backbone has products available as does Stone Brewing – it’s a pretty neat system thats easy to use from your phone.

We ordered it around 11 AM and it arrived just shy of 12:40. We chose the two-hour window (cause it was free) but we could have gotten it in under an hour for an additional $7.99.

The beer came in brown paper bags, each marked with the Amazon logo. They also included ice packs to keep the beer cold – and it stayed cold! *takes sip of beer*

A $5 tip was auto-added to my total so it was just under $40 for the three six packs.

The delivery driver, unaware of the products she was carrying, interacted with our receptionist who said the experience was pleasant. She had to show ID (in line with state law) and sign for it – but other than that it was like any other delivery expereince.

According to the release, the service is available from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. A Prime membership is required, you’ll have to order it from the Prime Now App as well but it was very easy to navigate.

Will we ever use this service again? Probably not because we live in within a few blocks of a convenience store, not to mention some local bars offer beer delivery in less time. But hey, it never hurts to widen the argument when you’re with your friends and you can’t figure out what to order on a Friday night.
