If you are polite and courteous, they will give you a rundown of anything you are curious about and let you know about their favorite items on the menu.
Don’t make too many alterations Sure, there might be things on the menu that you just plain know you don’t like, or even that you are allergic to. But overall, menu items are meticulously compiled by the chef for the specific flavor pairings of each dish. So, while it’s fine to nix things you always exclude from your diet, you’ll get the most accurate impression of food at the place you are trying out if you stick with the menu.
Share with dining partners Go out to eat with people who have similar tastes in food as you, or people who always try something crazy at each new place they check out. Then share your plate with them. You’ll get to try two new things for the price of one, and have a more enjoyable dining experience.
Don’t just get water This may sound snooty, but it isn’t just because your waitress will appreciate you racking up a bigger tab. If you read online reviews ahead of time, you can avoid the places that are known for being loud, or where all the food is spicy, if those things aren’t your style, instead of showing up and having a rotten time.
Be nice and tip well This should go without saying, but the better you treat your waitress, the better your will be treated, and if you are a good tipper and a pleasant person, you can develop a great relationship with your favorite restaurant and be privy to all the best deals!
