Open Stage Night @ Cafe Diem, Feat. The Milkstains

by | Nov 9, 2011 | POLITICS

It’s been 10 weeks since we kicked off the first Open Stage Night at Cafe Diem and a lot has happened since then. We’ve met some really cool people, been introduced to some great local music from bands we had never heard of and had the opportunity to make some cool friends with regular faces every Wednesday. When we approached Cafe Diem and proposed we package an open mic night specifically to pull from some of the amazing talent pooled around Richmond, we hoped to inspire those musicians to work together while getting the locals excited about the possibility of a musical movement Richmond has not seen since the punk/hardcore in the 80’s. Though we have still not reached the “standing room only” we had hopped for at this point, everyone has been very happy with the positive energy and high talent that has been present every Wednesday. We hope you’ll join us tonight and remember, It’s not just a night for musicians, it’s also a night for music fans.

If you missed last week, Relacksachian brought their Appalachian bluegrass inspired sound in a big way. Minus their drummer, Relacksachian plucked, popped, slapped, twanged, bowed and strummed the upright bass, violin, acoustic guitar and hill-billy style percussion section. They did not disappoint with thirty straight minutes of Virginia inspired gypsy jazz. Look for them to be doing a lot more around town in the next year.

Tonight, The Milkstains will be blessing your ears with psychedelic surf rock to kick off their six shows in five days tour with local favorite, Fire Bison. Come hang out tonight and catch them before they head up north then end the tour at Balliceaux this Sunday. So tonight, bring your instrument, and/or your ears an come celebrate local tunes and talent with RVA Magazine and Radio Rubber Room at Cafe Diem for Open Stage Night. (NO COVER!)

We have plenty of space left for anyone who wants to cut their teeth or try out some new tunes tonight. If you’d like to grab one, leave a message on our Facebook Event page. Also, it should be noted that we have reserved four OPEN slots that can only be assigned at the venue so come out early.
