VCU stretches legs, buys building on Cary

You can’t stop a moving train, and the VCU train keeps on a’moving.

You can’t stop a moving train, and the VCU train keeps on a’moving.

There’s a lot of debate about the impact VCU has had on the city (there have also been some questionable t-shirts made), but no matter how you feel about the growth of RVA’s biggest college, you might want to get used to seeing it spread its fingers.

Their most recent acquisition, 9 W Cary St, was an abandoned building on the east side of campus – in that weird dark zone between the Capitol and Belvidere.

Formerly Specialty Drapery, VCU plans to turn the building into an administrative office for The Office of Continuing and Professional Education.

NBC 12 has more details:

This is one of a few properties currently coming under VCU’s control; they’ve bought up an East Grace St. apartment building, some space for a new medical campus out in Short Pump, and then there’s the future Fine Arts Building at Belvidere and Broad.
