What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts’ desire.
If you missed last week’s beer news, you can check those out here. Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!
Some exciting news out of Petersburg’s Trapezium Brewing Co. is the launch of their new small batch pie series today. The brewery is celebrating Pi Day on Thursday with the inaugural release of our special Pie Series created by Brewmaster James Frazer who concocted new recipes that Trapezium will release now through August. Tonight, they will start the series off with Mississippi Mud Pie, an imperial cream ale brewed with lactose, vanilla beans, caramel, and Oreo cookies.

Last weekend, Steam’s Bell’s Canon & Draw Brewery opened on West Main Street. With a huge taproom, and list of beers ranging from lagers to IPAs, to a Hefeweizen, a barleywine, and a tasty plum and ginger gose, the Fan brewery is already off to a great start. Stop by amd give them a try.
This weekend, Fine Creek Brewing Co. will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with their ‘Duffy’s Dry Irish Stout’ and ‘Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Thai Tea Milk Stout’. The Powhatan brewery will have a cask of the Dry Irish Stout and they will be selling bottles of their ‘Wine Barrel Aged Brett Saison’ and ‘Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Thai Tea Milk Stout’. Irish food and music will also make up the festivities! There’s a three bottle limit for each beer, but if you buy three you’ll also receive a free glass of limited edition glassware that matches the bottle. These are annual releases, so once they’re gone, they’re done until next year!
Isley will host a St. Patrick’s Day party this Saturday with live music from Red Light Rodeo, food trucks, and of course, their usual beer lineup.
Kindred Spirit Brewing will release its Paradise Lager in cans, a light crisp lager that’s dry hopped with Citra, evoking aromas of orange and tangerines.
On Saturday, Lickinghole Creek will release Nuclear Nugget this Saturday in bottles as they celebrate St. Paddy’s Day.
Castleburg Brewery will release Dragon Storm, a Belgian Dubbel on Saturday. A Homebrew collaboration with Mike Drago, from the Mentoring Advanced Standards of Homebrewing (M.A.S.H.), Dragon Storm is a Belgian-Style Dubbel, this beer was brewed with tettnang, galena and styrian goldings hops and Belgian malts. The beer has flavors of caramel, figs, molasses and spicy pepper.
On Monday, Garden Grove Brewing & Urban Winery will have a taproom dinner featuring Tanya Cauthen of Belmont Butchery. Five courses paired with five GG brews. $39 plus tax & tip, Reservations Required.
Vasen Brewing has released Hibiscus Gose, which looks delicious so head over to the Scott’s Addition brewery and check it out.
On Friday, Twisted Ales will release Parlor Tricks, a wild fermented Belgian IPA. The brewery pulled raspberry and peach flavors for this 7% brew. Rams for Memory will be in the house raising money to fight Alzheimer’s disease with a karaoke night.
Of course, with it being St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, Shamrock the Block on Boulevard will kick off its annual festivities. 12-6 PM.
It’s Third Thursdays at The Veil Brewing Co. and that means a percentage of sales will go to a new local charity! From 5p-8p, the brewery will give 15 percent of sales STAY RVA. STAY (Supporting Together Area Youth) is a movement comprised of parents and neighbors who are committed to making Richmond Local Public Schools thrive.
On Thursday, Ardent Craft Ales will release two beers, its ruby brown doppelbock Defenestrator, an annual collaboration brewed with The Cask Cafe, along with Pink Boots IPA crafted with the Pink Boots Blend from YCH Hops to benefit the Pink Boots Society, which aims to assist, inspire, and encourage women beer professionals through education.
Three Notch’d RVA Collab House returns this Thursday with its weekly collaboration. This time around, its Local Alarm, an Irish Red Cream Ale made with The Local. Pint specials run till 7 PM. Stick around for trivia which starts at 7 pm.
