The SHHO Presents Nickelus F, “GotDamnMurdah”

by | Jan 23, 2013

Richmond native and hip hop heavyweight, Nickelus F just released the visually striking music video for his song entitled “GotDamnMurdah!” On this track, Nick F coasts on blunt smoke, women, and undoubtedly “eating pussy with my fronts in.” Contrary to what the title suggests, the song is in fact very laid-back. The video, directed by Nils Westergard, features plenty of hot chicks in black underwear (always a good thing), some familiar party scenes, and visuals that’ll stick in your head like gold glitter (the herpes of craft supplies).

It’s all so perfectly melded together that you might just get lost and fall into the screen as if it were a mysterious vat of blue goo. We caught up with Nils Westergard to find out more about working with Nickelus F, the music video, and what he has in store for the future.

How did you link up with Nickelus F.?

We were at Michael Millions place one day just chillin’, and Nick was there because they had been friends since high school. Nick saw some of my videos, like the stuff I did with Two-Nine and some things I had done for class, and he talked about wanting to get up. A week later he hit me up about the music video.

How did you guys come up with the video concept?

Nick was pretty supportive of what I came up with and we just ran with it. We came up with the idea of the girls covered in gold glitter, then thought what can we do with these girls that’ll make it interesting? I didn’t want to make this your typical hip hop video. I mean I like all of that stuff, the smoking weed, the girls, and the partying but there’s not enough there. How can we make this surreal, to the point where you can consider it as something else? You can have the girls, and usually it’s like a sexual thing, but covering them with paint makes them sort of androgynous.

What were some of the challenges in making the video?

I wanted to cover Nick in paint and we were supposed to cover more girls as well, but when it came to shooting we could only get two people to do it.

The people who lived at the house got cold feet when they saw that a few hundred people were invited, so we had to redo the Facebook Event, but we still got a lot of people to come out.

We ran the whole thing on no budget. The only thing we paid for was a keg that Nick bought for the party, which is what we traded to use the house. We had bigger things planned but neither of us had the money to make it happen. We just had to make the best of it and improvise.

I arrived at the party and 5 minutes later, the police were there.

Yeah. We didn’t get much time before the police came. We only got two takes. We ran the song twice and the second time the police were coming into the house. We were just like fuck it, just go.

Is this one of the bigger things you’ve done?

Definitely, because I’m so new to film in general every piece that I finish I’m just like, oh shit. It becomes my new favorite thing.

Are you working on more videos with Nickelus F?

Yeah, we just put out a promo video for his Vices project, and we’ve been talking about shooting some more videos together.

“GotDamnMurdah” is taken from Nickelus F’s newest mixtape, Vices, which was released on Monday. You can download it at http://theshho.com/2013/01/18/vices-1-21-13/

The Light That Never Went Out

There is a spotlight still mounted in the rafters of 528 N. 2nd Street. It has been there since 1914. It has outlasted segregation, fire, the highway that cut Jackson Ward in two, and decades of silence. On the nights when the Hippodrome Theater fills up, that light...
