Strangeways Brewing has a bunch of cool events and new releases coming up. So much so that we’ve gathered them all up and put them into one post just for you. You’re welcome.
The Dabney Road brewery released Legalize It! Kulture IPA, July 2, the second brew in their Legalize It! IPA series. It’s a collaboration with Kulture and is a piney, citrusy summer beer.
Cheyenne Burnham, Community Relations Director for Strangeways said the beer was very well recieved when they released it yesterday.
“Its our hoppiest beer to date, more West Coast Style IPA,” she said. “We had a lot of people that never come to the brewery and we had a really good day yesterday.”
The first beer in the series, Legalize It Tosh.OG IPA, which Burnham said wasn’t as dank as the Kulture beer, but still a citrusy, piney beer.
The brewery first started working with Kulture a couple months ago and they plan to release a third in the series.
They also recently released a Belgian Golden Ale last Saturday called The Snake and the Snowman, which was a collaboration between head brewer Mike Hiller and Dave Witte, drummer for Municipal Waste.
“There waas a beer called Stille Nacht, a Belgian Strong Ale that kind of changed his (Witte) perception on craft beer, it was kind of his enlightenment beer,” Burnham said. “He wanted to do a similar beer style as that.”

Finally, the major event is Strangeways’ second anniversary party next week. But the brewery isn’t just celebrating one day. Nope. They’re partying the whole weekend. The event kicks off July 9 with the premiere screening of a craft beer documentary, “Blood, Sweat, and Beers.” It tells the story of the explosive craft beer industry and follows two startup breweries. Tickets are $8 in advance.
“The directors are going to be there for a question and answer session after the film,” Burnham she said.
That Friday, the brewery will celebrate with their regular Brews and Burlesque series. Moxie LaBouche and Dante the Inferno are scheduled to perform. Tickets are $9.
Sat. July 11, is the big event, so you definitely don’t want to miss that. Strangeways will re-release Wake me Up Before You Gose and two other variants, a Hibiscus Red Wine Barrel Aged version and Ghost Pepper Rum Barrel Aged version which will be available in 500ml bottles and on draft. ZZQ will provide the food, the brewery will have arcade games all weekend and even a prize wheel. Festivities are from noon to 11:45 pm.
“We released the original last year on our anniversary, it was wildly popular so we’re bringing it back,” she said. “It was one that we took to the Great American Beer Festival and it was popular there too.”
Wake Me Up Before you Gose is a Germanic sour beer with a lemony tartness alongside hand-harvested French sea salt), coriander and ginger.
On Sunday, they will wrap up events with food from Port O Call RVA and music from Blue Line Highway and Tin Can Fish Band.
‘Its a chicken and waffle brunch, which we usually do once a month,” Burnham said.
