Richmond’s bustling arts scene continues to develop and flourish with amazing painters, sculptors, musicians, designers, and artists of all kinds, but once a month RVA offers us a really great treat with First Fridays.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, than you know the first friday of each month, RVA’s arts districts hosts an art walk on Broad Street from Laurel Street to 7th, and from Franklin to Clay streets featuring cool events at galleries, shops, restaurants and other spots in Richmond’s Arts District.

The artwork starts today from 5 to 9 pm and RVA Mag has picked some our favorites out of the this month’s lineup. So checkout the rundown below:

“HERstory: A woman’s worth” at ART 180
Artists from Black Art Student Empowerment at VCU open their exhibit “HERstory: A woman’s worth” for the First Fridays Art Walk.

VCU’s student run organization Black Art Student Empowerment (BASE), strives to develop potential, foster creativity, advance the awareness of Black artistic ability, preserve Black cultural heritage, and enhance the interactions among diverse groups in the community.

“La Voie Sacree” at Black Iris Music

“La Voie Sacree” is an exhibit RVA muralist Mickael Broth has up at Black Iris now dealing with “unimaginable, all-consuming, devastating realities of war.” Check out our story on that here.

“Bad Jews” at TheatreLAB

“Bad Jews” continues its knockout run at TheatreLAB, with a show Friday night. The concept of Jewish identity, and what makes a good or bad Jew, is the focus of this wonderful production. Check out our story on it over at GAYRVA.com here.

Trunk Show- Quirk Gallery

Designer Julia Gabriel brings her handmade bags, clutches, wallets, purses and other accessories to the gallery from 5 to 8 pm. Go check them out and find yourself something fancy!

Java the Hutt release at Lift Coffee Shop and Cafe

Like coffee? Like beer? Then over to Lift Coffee Shop and Cafe to taste their collaboration brew with Isley Brewing, Java the HUtt, an Imperial Stout.

Woman’s Day First Friday Celebration at Visual Art Studio

There’s a mini-arts fest happening over at the Visual Art Studio all in celebration of women that you don’t want to miss out on. Diana “Ramani” Urbiztondo, will showcase her exhibit “Under the Stars,” which is on display through March 24. She will host an Artist Talk at 6:30 PM to celebrate Woman’s Day.

Figure 6 by Susan Hribernik, is another exhibit that will be on display. It is a exhibition of Aperture Photography of Lewis Ginter GardenFest of Lights which will run through April 28. Elana Lisa and Rod Hyner of True Tonic will also perform an acoustic set of classic rock, blues and folk covers for the celebration.
