Henrock Highs: Fill Bowne’s Epic Party Pics from January 2009

by | Jul 2, 2009 | FASHION, NIGHTLIFE, PHOTOGRAPHY, STREETWEAR & SNEAKERS

Meet Fill Bowne, the legendary photographer and all-around cool dude who’s been making waves in the scene ever since our mag’s inception five years ago. He’s like a magnet for the most stunning ladies, and it’s hard not to feel a tinge of envy. But here’s the kicker – Fill’s got this incredible talent for turning wild, debaucherous parties into strangely beautiful spectacles, even amidst the chaos of sloppiness and barely-hanging-on revelers. Mind-boggling, right?

In a candid chat with R. Anthony Harris, Fill spills the beans on his party pic mastery, confessing that while being surrounded by gorgeous women might sound like a dream gig, it’s no walk in the park.

Henrock and Fill go way back. A lifetime of friendship with Billy Manzanarez (10 years) and Rudy Lopez (9 years) began at VCU, and their obsession with party photography was ignited well before “Henry” was a household name for Henrock parties. Back in the day, before the Cobra Snake or Last Night’s Party fame, it was just Fill and Chris Lacroix on the RVA party scene, capturing shots that would later define an era.

The party that’ll linger in memories five years from now? Jenny’s epic bash at Nara, no doubt. The color, the spandex, the light, the reckless abandon – it was a mesmerizing blend that Fill masterfully translated into mind-blowing photographs. And let’s not forget the unforgettable Henrock fiesta in January 2009, where Fill’s lens captured a girl crowd surfing, etching it as one of his all-time favorite party shots.

But Fill isn’t just about party photography, no sir! He’s an art school alum, and his lens ventures into the realm of fashion, aiming to conquer local boutiques, Etsy shops, and the glossy pages of publications.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is.
