In preparation for Gallery 5’s First Friday event this Friday, which doubles as the Carnival Of 5 Fires opening ceremony and the opening reception for the Party Liberation Front’s first group art show, Visuals, we’re pleased to bring you this documentation of the creative process behind some of the exhibits that will be shown this Friday and throughout the month of October.

Filmed by RVA Magazine’s own Todd Raviotta, also a member of the PLF and a co-curator of Visuals along with Parker S. Galore, this video is a photoanimation that begins with the earliest preparations, which took place last winter, and brings the viewer forward in time through months of work and development up to this September, when the art show assumed its final form and began to be prepared for display. You’ll see plenty of Raviotta’s own Natural Science Productions prints in various stages of production, as well as a good bit of work from the REPACK Factory–apparently the host for these art-creating gatherings–who use fluorescent paint and stencils to brighten up furniture and other pieces of home decor. And of course, there are some brief previews of the street show the PLF will be staging outside of Gallery 5 this Friday–fire-spinning, black lights, a decorated party bus, and more! Keep an eye out for easter eggs of the literal and metaphorical varieties as well. This video makes it obvious that the PLF has a lot of great artwork in store for you at Gallery 5 this Friday and throughout the month of October, so make sure you get down there. You won’t want to miss it.

For one weekend, Agecroft Hall stopped being a museum and became a kingdom.  What began as a fundraiser to help launch Richmond's first Renaissance Faire has grown into a destination of its own. Warriors in Bloom, created by the folks at Virago Alley, returned with...

Everything We Did Was A Bad Idea

Review | SAFETY! Swings Big But Falls Just Short

WARNING: This review contains baseball metaphors.  Cadence Theatre’s Pipeline New Works Program is at the plate again, with its last batter, Witchduck, staring at home from third base. It is literally the first swing ever for the new musical, SAFETY!, at Firehouse...
