Brass are releasing their Charles Mingus tribute album, classic metal bands Volture and Cauldron are headlining a show at Strange Matter, 70’s-style punk band The Cheats are playing a free show at Bandito’s, and oldschool indie favorites A Roman Holiday are getting back together to play one final show. In other words, it is a weekend for nostalgia, throwbacks, and all the emotions that go with them! So don’t party too hard on the fourth–you’ll want the to save some energy for this weekend.

Friday, 7/5: No BS! Brass Band Mingus CD Release Party @ Balliceaux
This Friday at Balliceaux, local favorites No BS! Brass Band will rock and jazz out all night, to celebrate the release of Fight Songs: A Tribute to Charles Mingus, an album consisting entirely of their own takes on songs by the classic jazz composer. Come out to dance all night and hear new versions of old songs!
Friday, 7/5: Masthead Print Studio @ Studio Two Three
If you’re looking for something, artsy, cheap, and low-key to do on Friday at 6:30 before the evenings festivities, check out Studio Two Three to catch Masthead Print Studio from Philly as they stop by on their East Coast tour, dedicated to sharing the world of prints. They will give a lecture and talk about their gallery, as well as have a showing of their art, and you’ll be able to buy prints, too. If you are already into printmaking or art, or if you just want to check out some sweet work and out of town people, it’s always worth stopping by!
Friday. 7/5: Volture @ Strange Matter
There’s no better way to let of steam from a frustrating week then a good, old-fashioned metal show, and Strange Matter has just what you need this Friday night. Traditional metal badasses Cauldron will be headlining a show along with classic metal contemporaries from here, Volture. They will also be joined by Devil’s Hand and Salvacion. Best of all, it’s only seven bucks at the door! Come bang your head to some traditional thrash!
Saturday, 7/6: A Roman Holiday Reunion Show @ Strange Matter
Supporting their recently-released album, Death By Roman Holiday, the fondly-recalled local indie band A Roman Holiday are playing a very special reunion show for all their fans at Strange Matter. Their friends in Hot Lava will be opening the show, along with other local bands Black Taxi and First Creature. For only five bucks, you can catch A Roman Holiday’s one-night-only reunion, and three other good bands, too. Don’t miss it!
Sunday, 7/7: The Cheats @ Bandito’s
If 70’s-style punk is your thing, you should definitely check out The Cheats when they play for free this Sunday at Strange Matter. These Pittsburgh natives play some mean, oldschool punk rock, and Apocalypse Dudes, the Turbonegro cover band, will be opening the show. Come wrap up your awesome, memory-laden weekend here with some carefree punk rock.
