Up-and-coming local punk trio Teen Death won’t release their first EP, Crawling, until next month, but they’ve already gotten quite a bit of attention–one of the songs from their EP was premiered by BrooklynVegan a couple weeks ago. The attention is well-deserved; Teen Death may feature vocals from Hold Tight singer/bassist James Goodson (who plays guitar in this project–Hold Tight guitarist Eric Kelly is also in the band playing drums), but they have their own distinct sound, mixing chunky Nirvana-style riffing with the no-frills energy of garage rock and old-school punk.

You can hear all those influences on the two songs from Crawling that are currently available for advance streaming online (the EP will feature 6 songs total). “I’m Crawling” is an upbeat rager with plenty of bent notes and speedy beats. It’s over way too soon, but the chorus is super catchy and will stay stuck in your head for quite a while longer than its 60-second duration. “Friends” (the one BrooklynVegan premiered) is longer and slower, and kinda makes me think of the Toadies. It has a pretty hectic guitar solo towards the end, too; I love it when a solo gets so crazy that the whole song basically falls apart, and there’s definitely some of that going on at the end of “Friends.” Blast these songs through your crappy laptop speakers below:

Crawling will be out on September 16, and while there isn’t a preorder page up yet, you should keep an eye on the 6131 website for details that will undoubtedly come to light before long. You can also keep up with Teen Death on Facebook and Tumblr.
