Get ready to party like an old-school German, because Capital Ale House will be holding their 11th annual Oktoberfest this Saturday, and you are all invited!

“Each year, we aim to offer attendees the most authentic German experience possible, but always adding a Virginia touch,” says Capital Ale House President Matthew Simmons. And that definitely means beer! The festivities begin at noon with the ceremonial tapping of the keg by Lisa Schaffner of UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing); once that happens, the party will go on all day. Guests of legal drinking age will be able to purchase a 1 liter Capital Ale House stein for $4 (while supplies last)–or you can just bring your own.

In addition to dozens of craft and imported beers available for your drinking pleasure, Capital Ale House’s Oktoberfest will feature a wide selection of traditional German food items, including giant pretzels with sweet mustard, bratwurst, knockwurst, currywurst, sauerbraten and dumplings with ginger snap gravy, Jaegerschnitzel, German potato salad, red cabbage, spaetzel and sauerkraut. Sounds awesome, right?

This is a family-friendly event, and children will have the opportunity to visit Kinderplatz, a kids’ play area featuring face painting, balloon animals, giant inflatables, and a whole bunch of other fun kids’ activities. There will also be live music and German dancing ensembles for the enjoyment of the whole family.

Admission for the festival is $3, with proceeds going towards UNOS, a company that supports and manages organ donorship. Lederhosen is not compulsory, but if you’ve got them lying around, there’s no better opportunity to break ’em out.
