After last year’s successful Kickstarter campaign that funded the debut collection from her namesake line, designer Angela Bacskocky is again using the popular portal to raise money for her new project. “Ghost” is the second conceptual line from Baskcocky. Described by her as a “multi-media art project that merges fashion and art,” the March 29th launch of “Ghost” follows in the wake of “Nest” as a fashion show-cum-art installation. The performance will be a confluence of painting, sculpture, photography, print, and music.
I’ve always dug Angie’s conceptual approach to fashion and can’t wait to see how her aesthetic has evolved. After the structured tailoring of her “Nest” line, I look forward to the flowy, sheer fabrics and muted palette of “Ghost.” No fear of a sophomore slump exists here. Angie’s vision comes from insight into emotions that we all feel but often fail to express. The strength of the concept for “Ghost” reveals Angie’s artistic growth since the release of “Nest” in 2012.
“Ghosts are the memories and thoughts we keep with us, everything we’re holding on to, and the false memories that become real. They’re floating along beside us all the time like an aura, like a burden, like a comfort. All the people and things and thoughts we can’t shake, continuing to affect and influence us. It’s obsession and compulsion in general and not being able to let go.”
If you’ve never spent time pondering the role of memories in your day to day reality, let this collection take you on that trip. We all struggle with the extent to which we can be honest with ourselves, most often when faced with the memories that make us suffer. Paradoxically, those memories are often the ones we fail to let go of. Someone call Carl Jung!
The Kickstarter for “Ghost” ends in four days and still needs donations in order to be funded! Let’s help these artists reach their goal.
