Blacklist Burlesque pays tribute to Jim Henson Saturday night at Richmond CenterStage (ticket giveaway!)

by | Jan 20, 2015 | ART

If you remember the original Muppet Show (or at least the Weezer video for “Keep Fishin'”) you surely recall that those episodes revolved around a scrappy crew of entertainers putting together a Saturday Night Live-style variety show. And in their tribute to the work of Jim Henson, hitting the stage at CenterStage’s Gottwald Playhouse this Saturday night, Blacklist Burlesque will revive the spirit of the Muppet Show to bring you a variety of entertainments with a more adult-oriented focus!

That’s right, burlesque fans–The Lovers, The Dreamers, And Me: A Burlesque Tribute to Jim Henson brings you a whole new side of the beloved children’s entertainer and his legendary puppet creations. The vaudeville-style performances the Muppet Show brought to life originated from the same showbiz tradition that brought the world burlesque, so Blacklist Burlesque will be bringint things full circle! Your favorite burlesque entertainers from RVA will take the stage to give you their versions of Kermit, Fozzie, Miss Piggy and the whole gang as you’ve never seen them before! They’ll also be paying tribute to the full spectrum of Henson creations, including The Dark Crystal, Sesame Street, Labyrinth, and even The Witches.

Local entertainers you know and love, such as Lily Liqueur, Dante The Inferno, Moxie LaBouche, Ray Bullock, and Scarlet Starlet, will be joined by MagikCity Sirens founders Jezabelle von Jane and Abigail Lee von Jane, as well as by DC’s own Bella LaBlanc, and by Sally Starrdust, Sally Forth and Venessa Chevelle–a trio of young performers making their CenterStage debut. With host Ego Von Hubris guiding you through the entire evening, it’s guaranteed to be a Muppet-tastic evening of fun and excitement! And of course, continuing in what’s become somewhat of a tradition for these CenterStage burlesque performances, there will be one sequence during which no one will be seated–this time it involves the Swedish Chef, who was always my personal favorite Muppet (bork bork bork!).

In addition to the entertainment being brought to you on stage–as if you needed any more reason to show up on Saturday–there will also be a raffle happening throughout the evening, featuring prizes donated by local businesses like Sugar Shack, Bombshell, Wild Heaven Farm, and Rocket Fizz, as well as handmade items by Scarlet Starlet, Jezabelle von Jane, Bella La Blanc and more. So make sure you grab some raffle tickets during intermission!

It’s all happening this Saturday, January 24, beginning at 9 PM, at Gottwald Playhouse at Richmond CenterStage, located at 600 E. Grace St. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show, and can be purchased HERE.
