Circus Zirkus, taking place this Saturday at Plant Zero in Manchester, is an extravaganza for the senses that offers delights for the entire family as well as some prime adults-only entertainment, all over the course of a single action-packed day! Combining an afternoon Family Circus and an evening Adult Cabaret, this full day of events will also feature a silent auction–plus, the proceeds from the event will go toward a good cause, benefiting the Waldorf School and the Pollard Girls Educational Fund.

The day begins at 1 PM with the Family Circus, an afternoon of entertainment that’s guaranteed to captivate both children and adults. The day’s entertainment will feature a performance by Paolo Garbanzo, world-renowned juggler and former member of The Flying Karamazov Brothers and RVA’s own Garbanzo Brothers. Now a solo performer, Garbanzo won the International Jester Competition at Muncaster Castle in England in 2007, making him the Official Jester at Muncaster Castle–the first American to win that honor. All The Saints Puppet Theatre will delight all comers with puppetry performances, and there will also be baton twirlers, hoop dancers, whip artists, and much more!

Then, drop the kids off with the sitter and head back over at 8:30 PM for the Adult Cabaret, an 18-and-up exhibition featuring a parade of “discretely risqué frolics and entertainments,” as the Circus Zirkus crew so eloquently describes it. Featuring encore performances with a decidedly more grown-up tone from early-afternoon performers like Paolo Garbanzo, Mark Slomski, and others, the evening will also showcase contortionists, fire-eating, torch-singing, and pole dancing, among other things–so it should be a lot of fun! Trixie Little and her partner in crime, the Evil Hate Monkey, will perform their unique mixture of comedy, burlesque, and acrobatic stunts, which has previously earned them the 2006 Exotic World Best Burlesque Duo trophy, as well as performances with John Waters, the Flaming Lips, and many more. Get a preview of their hijinks below:

REVIEW | Ducking Awesome! WitchDuck Is Smart, Sharp, and Ruthless

I am rarely speechless, especially about theatre. Since I don’t get paid if I remain silent, I will make myself criticize a play I don’t feel I have any right to judge. Gotta pay the rent, and all that. I came into this performance of WitchDuck by Cadence and...

Richmond Had a General Strike and a First Friday on the Same Night
