CO-TE-RIE, a group show at Ghostprint Gallery.

by | May 4, 2011 | ART

A group of five international artists will be showing at Ghostprint Gallery this upcoming First Friday. A collection that spans from illustration to abstract to representational painting, the show has a alittle something for everybody. Alexander Klingspor from Sweden, Tiffen Python from France, and three Americans—Jim Burke, Doug Chayka and Kevin Parr have all contributed to this show that open on Friday and is curated by TAD RVA’s Josh George.

Alexander Klingspor, a native of Stockholm, has had numerous international shows. These include exhibitions at Arcadia Gallery in New York, Cercle Suedois in Paris, Gallery Steinlund in Stockholm and Albemarle Gallery in London. His work, he says, is inspired by the “intriguing mood of the nocturnal winter work of Stockholm and the relativity between light and dark.”

Tifenn Python was born in France, grew up in Tahiti and completed her studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. She now lives in Brooklyn. Her roster of clients includes The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and Elektra Records. In 2007, Python spent six months in Shanghai where she created a new series of work. Her paintings have been exhibited in numerous one person and group exhibitions in New York and abroad.

Jim Burke graduated from Syracuse University in 1996. He chairs the Illustration Department at the New Hampshire Institute of Art and lives in Manchester. In his paintings, Burke employs powerful compositions and intriguing paint application to capture the subtle ambience of buildings that move him.

Doug Chayka received his BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1996 and was awarded a Fulbright Grant to further his graduate studies at Universitat der Kunste, Berlin, in 2000-2002. He has taught at College of the University of New York, Rochester Institute of Technology, Pratt Institute and The Illustration Academy in Richmond. His work has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Germany and the United States.

Kevin Parr is an abstract minimalist painter living in Los Angeles who has shown his work throughout the United States. After a significant career as an illustrator he is now pursueing a degree in painting and drawing from Cal State, Long Beach.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is. Review | ‘Come From Away’ is the Best We’ve Ever Been

Do you remember the rollerblading guy with the American flag kit on September 12th? We will never forget the 11th for the horrors, but do you remember the 12th? The 13th? If you do, I don’t even have to say which year. If you don’t, let me tell you a little bit about...

Review | ‘I Love You Because’ Is Pure Joy 🏳️‍🌈

It could be said that Shakespeare invented the rom-com. It could also be said that Jane Austen improved it a couple of centuries later. Between the two of them, meet-cutes, notices of love or rejection arriving at exactly the wrong time, and breathless affirmations of...
