Fall Line Fest is looking to be one of the premiere events for RVA this… fall. Seriously though, between Big Freedia, Cold Cave and Neon Indian doing a DJ set, I wasn’t sure if this show could get any better, but then they drop this bomb via press release:

The idea behind Richmond, Virginia’s first annual Fall Line Fest is ambitious; set to take place September 6th & 7th, 2013, the organizers are aiming to showcase what it is exactly that gives Richmond its own unique charm. With a focus on music, food, and art, the two day event balances both nationally-known names and homegrown talent, all within a walkable area of the city’s downtown.

Organizers are excited to announce several new bands to the weekend’s lineup including Kopecky Family Band (recently seen on Leno), Speedy Ortiz, Thou, Pity Sex and Diamond Youth in addition to previously announced headliners Big Freedia, Neon Indian (DJ set) and Cold Cave (see poster for full 40+ band line-up). Food events for the weekend include panels with renowned local chefs and restauranteurs and special artist/chef menu collaborations, while art events include a live mural painting by acclaimed Richmond street artist Ham? and multiple galleries opening new shows that Friday evening.

AMIRIGHT?! Speedy Ortiz is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands of 2013, and RVA Contributor By Daniel Rhoads agrees.

For a first full-length, Arcana is truly impressive. The album even implies a sense of structure that more mature bands have yet to master. The heart-clenching centerpiece is, without a doubt, “No Below”, one of the slowest tracks but easily the most emotionally riveting. At once somber and full of hope, it’s a gorgeous love song treated like real life, with anxiety and pain, but always that wide-eyed wonderment that comes with new romance. “I didn’t know you / when I was a kid,” Dupuis murmurs in closing, “but swimming with you / it sure feels like I did.” If you weren’t sold on the strength of her words before, the montage of imagery here will leave you wide-eyed as the guitars play an inverted nursery rhyme tune, which soothes, but won’t quite let you slip off to sleep.

Hear ‘No Below’ here:

Now if that wasn’t enough, Nashville’s Kopecky Family Band have also been added to the line up. Here they are fresh on Leno a few weeks back.

So there you have it folks. Fall Line Fest is going to be amazing and you better buy some tickets soon – DAY PASSES ARE STILL AVAILABLE for 15$! Support good music, good food, and good art. You can scoop tickets here.
