In order to fund this restaging, FDANCE has turned to Kickstarter, seeking to raise $2000 by Thursday, January 3 at 2 PM.

In order to fund this restaging, FDANCE has turned to Kickstarter, seeking to raise $2000 by Thursday, January 3 at 2 PM. At the moment, they are still well short of their goal, and with time running out, they could use the help of the RVA artistic community in order to reach their goals.
But what exactly is Impressive Mastermind? Rebecca A. Farrell’s intervention dance piece involves more than just a choreographed performance for your viewing pleasure. All attendees (except those bearing VIP passes) will be required to pass through a security checkpoint–seemingly similar to those in airports, though Farrell’s reluctant to provide details. Impressive Mastermind‘s theme is an examination of changing ideas of privacy in the eyes of the law, specifically in the wake of 9/11 and the passing of the USA Patriot Act. It is Farrell’s belief that our Constitutional rights, specifically those provided by the Fourth Amendment, have been curtailed, ostensibly in order to provide increased security for American citizens. The point of Impressive Mastermind is to get viewers to consider their own views about these issues, and to do so through a non-traditional theatre staging that blurs the lines between performance and day-to-day reality. Kickstarter contributors who donate $100 or more will receive two free tickets to the performance when it is eventually staged, while those donating $250 or more will receive VIP passes that allow the holders to circumvent the security checkpoint. However, contributors with less to spare can still take advantage of a variety of more lighthearted rewards, including high fives and pictures with FDANCE’s inflatable mascot, Sanchez. Really, though, the best reward is allowing the opportunity for this unconventional and unique performance to be staged in its full glory right here in RVA. Performances like this are a big part of what makes this city’s artistic scene so special and vibrant. This Kickstarter campaign is an opportunity for you to help keep that scene strong.
FDANCE will stage Impressive Mastermind at Dogtown Dance Theatre, located at 109 W. 15th St in Manchester, on February 8 and 9, 2013.
