Mark Jenkins: Street Installations

Mark Jenkins makes art where he wants to.

Mark Jenkins makes art where he wants to. If only we were all so bold with our creations, the world would likely be a more chaotic, and more beautiful, place. I’ve seen some work in RVA that mirrors his, slightly, at least in it’s intent- additions to street signs and the such. I have never seen work as significant as his, however, offered freely and without regard to galleries, approved spaces, or, indeed, any sort of approval at all, anywhere in Richmond, unless we count the innumerable scribblings and paintings on walls, trash cans, alleys and structures. This the intent of graffiti without the spray can. It’s Banksy, but sculpture.

Peter Cochrane | Where the Image Hesitates and the Self Disappears

"You have to be delusional to be an artist." That’s how Peter Cochrane closes our conversation. We’re sitting across from each other in a quiet Richmond studio, the air thick with pollen and thought. The line lands not as a punchline but as a thesis offered without...
