While not all Project Runway winners go on to become the next Karl Lagerfeld, many, such as Christian Siriano, have done extremely well with their own clothing labels, while others have landed incredible jobs working for other designers. The opportunity for nationwide name recognition is incredible. The winner is showered in prizes in opportunities, including a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a 2014 Lexus IS 350, a spa vacation, a $100,000 fabric allowance from Tide Pods, and a chance to design a line for the Belk department store. The benefits of winning the show’s competition are pretty enticing, as they offer the designer not only some pleasure, but the opportunity for commercial success.

Angela Bacskocky’s lines have proven commercially successful, but are also known locally for their artful shows presenting the first two lines. For each of these, the designer fused garments from the line being debuted with other art forms, including music, photography, and cerebral performance pieces by models. Angie’s concept dances the line between artistic collective and traditional clothing line, and manages to fuse an emotional backstory to the evolution of her garments and accessories. Her first two lines, “Nest” and “Ghost,” featured classic silhouettes, sumptuous leathers, and tailoring that reflected years of experience in design.
This latest season of Project Runway will premiere at 9 PM July 18th on Lifetime. In the meantime, you can check out this video of the designer showing off her personal style sensibilities via items from her very own closet.
