About one year ago, my room mate and I had jokingly thought it would be fun to create a blog about photographs from roofs, because we had just climbed a 3 story building (that at the time had seemed like an accomplishment), and also because we were both avid photographers. Fast forward a couple of months and we find ourselves sneaking into a construction site at 1 AM in between the security guards lap of the block. With no time to spare, we break into a sprint moments after touching ground off the fence, straight to the cold metal beams in the middle of the area. We looked up. 20 stories of nothing but latters and nothing around you. Fuck. By the time we got to the top, which took a considerable amount of time, I was shaking and swearing that I would never in my life climb a crane again. The whole thing moved with the wind, and there were safety bars that literally fell if you touched them. And on top of this miserable mission, by the time we got back down to the bottom, there was a security guard waiting with a flashlight expecting us to give in. of course, we ran, sprinted through Jackson ward, hid in an alley while sirens past, and waited it out before going home. I wish I could say that was a closer call than usual, or at least more dangerous than usual, but its not. We risk our lives and our future hoping, just hoping, to at least get a good picture. These our the products.

REVIEW | Ducking Awesome! WitchDuck Is Smart, Sharp, and Ruthless

I am rarely speechless, especially about theatre. Since I don’t get paid if I remain silent, I will make myself criticize a play I don’t feel I have any right to judge. Gotta pay the rent, and all that. I came into this performance of WitchDuck by Cadence and...

Richmond Had a General Strike and a First Friday on the Same Night

It was 72 and breezy. Unseasonably pleasant, almost chilly. VCU students were splayed out on picnic blankets in Monroe Park enjoying soft serve and the sunshine. Citronella and the smell of hot dogs wafted through the air from some folks having a cookout. “High...
