Deanna Danger’s Boom Boom Basics Burlesque Studio are presenting a historic event this Sunday at the Byrd Theatre–the first-ever burlesque performance at this historic movie house! They’ve put together a great show paying tribute to many of the cinema classics that have graced the screen of the Byrd over the years–early silent films, beloved children’s films, some of Hollywood’s greatest female icons, and more. This Sunday at 8 PM, they’ll bring the history of the motion picture to life before your very eyes!

The event will be hosted by Mark Slomski of the Slomski Cabaret, and featured performers will include Deanna Danger, Bitsy Buttons, Charlie, Cherrie Canary, Deepa DeJour, Indy Go-Go, Lottie Ellington, Maria Bella, Meka La Crème, Paco Fish, Scarlet Starlet, and The Wanderlust Agreement. There will also be a tribute cabaret style performance to the Byrdettes from The Dainty Dolls. Joining the onstage cast will be The Filmroasters, who will be not only providing their own comedic flair to the event, but will be fully utilizing the beauty, architecture, and perfect staging of this grand movie palace. On top of all that, vendors will line the Byrd Theatre lobby, and “cigarette girls” will be walking the theatre pre-show and intermission, selling raffle tickets worth hundreds in prizes, show posters (that fans can stick around after the show to get signed by the cast), popcorn, and more!

And best of all, you could see this epic presentation for free! That’s right, we here at RVA Magazine have two tickets to give away to this burlesque extravaganza, and you could win them by sending an email to andrew@rvamag.com. The drawing to determine the winner will be held on Friday May 4th, so get your entries in by noon that day! Or, if you’re not willing to leave things up to chance, you can purchase tickets for only $10 in advance from the Boom Boom Basics studio’s website by clicking HERE. Tickets will also be available for $15 at the door starting at 7:30 PM the night of the event. We’ll see you there!
