Hey RVA and all you craft beer lovers out there! It’s time for your next installment of “Tapped,” RVA Mag’s weekly beer column.

This week we’ve brewed up quite a strong roundup for you, but first check out a few photos from what you missed last week: (Check out last week’s full roundup here).

Lickinghole Creek had an epic weenie roast and open mic. Check it out below and dont worry if you missed it, because the brewery is having another one!

So this week is super exciting. This weekend will kick off the highly anticipated annual Virginia Craft Month with beer releases, festivals, and other events all around Richmond and the whole state. And where can you find all the info? Well right here of course. We’ll be pouring as much booze news into your cups as you can handle.

Besides Virginia Craft Beer Month, we’ve got a Craft Beer Fest, new beer releases, another weenie roast, beer Olympics, new moonshine and much more! So with that let’s get into it.

Strangeways Brewing has a bunch of cool events going on the rest of the week and over the weekend. Tonight, is the brewery’s “Yappy Hour” where you can grab a cold one with your favorite furry pal. Sampler specials will be available all night and Yappy Hour starts at 6:30 pm. Strangeways has partnered with Bandit’s Adoption and Rescue of K-9s (BARK) pups looking for their fur-ever home while you toast man (and woman’s) best friend.

On Thursday, Strangeways will help kick off Wizard World’s Comic Con so all you trekkies head on out there to celebrate with wizard world-themed beer, celebrity appearances, prizes, and food trucks.

The most exciting news for the week is Virginia Craft Beer Month, which will be upon us this Saturday.

Strangways Brewing is celebrating with a new beer release,BOOM! Choc-O-Lotta, this Saturday.
From noon-Midnight you can taste the 5 percent darker Märzen lager that’s aged over cocoa nibs and vanilla beans for a luscious, chocolatey flavor amongst the rich, German malts.

Also in celebration of Virginia Craft Beer Month next month, Triple Crossing will re-release Nectar and Knife DIPA bottled brew on Saturday.

On Thursday, Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery is hosting another Weenie Roast and Open Mic night. Bring your own dogs and enjoy their finest brews.

This Saturday, Lickinghole is also having a pretty epic party called RVA Beer Games. The Goochland brewery and other local breweries are joining forces to put on the first ever beer games. Each brewery is serving beer and joining in the days festivities! Don’t miss your chance to play alongside or against your favorite brewery. Prizes will be awarded to the winners and best in show! Dunk your favorite brewer, Malt bag Races, Inflatable Obstacle Course, Richmond Bubble Soccer are just some of the games you’re going to get to enjoy. I think this might be my pick of the week. Center of the Universe in Ashland is celebrating Virginia Craft Beer Month the entire month of August with events at bars and restaurants around town as well as the brewery. Check them out here now, but we will be covering them for VCB Month so be on the lookout.

This Friday, Ardent Craft Ales will release its new IPA Rakau. The brew has the base of their original garage IPA with Centennial, Columbus, and Simcoe hops and is dry hopped with Rakau, a New Zealand Hop. Rakau has lovely and pungent whiffs of ripe fruit backed with bright notes of grapefruit juice.

Hardywood is going all out for Virginia Craft Beer Month. The brewery is offering specials on all of its Reserve Series and Barrel Series bottles to go! Visit the tasting room from now until August 30th to get some of the good stuff!

Isley Brewing will kick off their celebration of Virginia Craft Beer Month Aug. 1 with music from The Royal We, food, and of course good beer.

The Richmond Kickers are throwing their second annual Craft Beer Fest this Saturday and giving you a free beer and Kickers Cup when you buy a ticket to the game. There will be 20 craft beers and ciders to choose from as well as food trucks and live music. $12. Check out our story here and get tickets to the game here.

Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint will be the first spot in Richmond to feature Harrisonburg-based-Pale Fire Brewing tomorrow, July 30. Brews rom Champion Beer Company will be available as well. Check it out!

Belle Isle Craft Spirits released a new product called Belle Isle 100, which you can find at these locations. Launched this week, tts their third and strongest Premium Moonshine. Pick it up at these ABC locations.

“Tapped” runs every Wednesday and will be filled with news about your local craft breweries, event, festivals, new beer releases and everything we think you need to know about the craft beer scene before you head into your weekend!
