Richmond Groups Protest Brian Kilmeade Event at Dominion Energy Center

A coalition of Richmond-based groups is calling on ASM Richmond and the Dominion Energy Center to cancel an upcoming appearance by Fox News personality Brian Kilmeade, scheduled for Saturday, September 27.

In a letter sent Tuesday to Glenn Major, general manager of the venue, 50501 Virginia and allied organizations cited remarks Kilmeade made on the September 10 episode of Fox & Friends. Responding to a co-host’s suggestion about jailing unhoused people, Kilmeade said, “We should just use involuntary lethal injection, or something, just kill ’em.”

The groups argue that giving Kilmeade a platform in Richmond would promote political violence and endanger marginalized communities. “He will undoubtedly use [the event] to advocate for political violence, harm, and the wholesale destruction of marginalized people,” the letter reads.

The signatories also linked their request to broader concerns about press freedom under the current administration. The letter pointed to recent actions by the FCC and the Department of Justice, which they described as examples of government censorship and unconstitutional overreach.

Organizations backing the letter include 50501 Virginia, RVA Indivisible, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Richmond Chapter, Third Act RVA, The Virginia Defender, and the Richmond Peace Education Center.

“This is clearly government censorship, a blatant example of unconstitutional overreach,” the letter states. “Ours is a peaceful movement that cherishes freedom of speech. And we are using that freedom to demand that you cancel Kilmeade’s show in Richmond.”

Here is the letter in full.
