I think I figured out why RVA is the happiest city in the country – it’s our access to world-class craft beer.

I think I figured out why RVA is the happiest city in the country – it’s our access to world-class craft beer.

And we’ve got folks like Hardywood Brewery to thank for that.

And you can take part in their newest brews when they premiere them this Saturday for Barrel Day featuring Bourbon DIPA.

They’ll be opening up three barrel-aged beers, as well as a new Bourbon DIPA at their Scott’s Addition brewery.

Here’s some details about the new brews via Hardywood:

Hardywood Bourbon DIPA is hopped with a heavy dose of Columbus, Cascade and Summit hops, fermented with an abbey ale yeast that imparts some subtle tropical fruit and peppery notes and conditioned twelve weeks in freshly emptied Virginia bourbon barrels from the A. Smith Bowman Distillery, where earthy, vanilla, toffee and bourbon notes lend an exquisite mellowness to Bourbon DIPA. Available on draft, in 750mL bottles, and for 32oz growler fills!

Hardywood Singel aged for 18 months on Bowman’s Abraham Bourbon Barrels, on draft and for 320z growler fills

Russian Imperial Stout aged for 18 months on Makers Mark Bourbon Barrels, on draft and for 32oz growler fills

Belgian Quad aged for 16months on Cruzan Rum barrels, on draft and for 320z growler fills

And it wouldn’t be a Hardywood event with out tons of food trucks – Boka Tako Truck, Estes Bar.B.’Que and Carytown Burgers & Fries – and live music! Here’s the musical line up:

5:30pm – The Welcome Hips
Newly formed in RVA, synth-pop channeling the jangle-y rock sound of the Velvet Underground, the Walkmen.

7pm – White Laces
“..the East Coast’s best-kept secret.” Dreamy, atmospheric indie-pop in Richmond, VA.

8pm – The Diamond Center
Electrified folk freak-out drone. TX + VA

So if your Saturday plans could be improved by quality brews, good food, and great RVA music, head on over to Hardywood Brewery – 2408 Ownby Lane, Richmond, VA 23220.
