The Championship Round of The Beer Madness Bracket Poll is finally done! The champion of this massive RVA beer battle has been determined, and now it is time for their coronation.

The stage was set with Hardywood vs Mekong, a matchup many thought would eventually happen in the end.

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery represented the East with huge wins against tough opponents on its way to the finals. Hardywood previously had to go against the very strong Capital Ale House; it pulled out a win in that tough battle to take the east. Hardywood actually pulled in the most votes in all of the regions to make it to the final game.

Mekong coasted through most of the early rounds in the tourney, being an odds-on favorite to make it to the final game. However, they ran into some stiff competition in the final two rounds in the West. In the final game in the West, Mekong took a convincing lead over Portrait House to head to the championship.

So this became our final battle: Hardywood vs Mekong. Both teams have huge followings that have helped create the craft beer scene in RVA as we know it today, and have had great showings and strong votes throughout this tournament, all the way up to their meeting for this final showdown. In the final game, both teams stayed strong and played out the championship game neck and neck. Towards the final quarter, a champion started to emerge, slowly pulling away, taking its final shot at the buzzer, and winning the crown!

Congratulations to MEKONG, winner of RVA On Tap’s Beer Madness Championship!!!

We would like to thank the huge amount of people that helped us do this Beer Madness Bracket! Thank you for taking the time to vote on each round and support your local beer bars, breweries, and craft stores in Richmond VA. With so much support, and new places popping up every day, we are excited for the future of craft beer in the river city!

Also, we’d like to offer a huge thanks to all the businesses we included in this beer bracket. Thank you for pushing this bracket out, getting your fans involved to vote for you, and for your support of RVA overall. We will have some special prizes for some of our teams in the 2014 Beer Madness Bracket.
