Tapped: Blue Bee Cider turns 1, Triple Crossing’s Waxing Poetic Berliner, & COTU’s Pepperhoptas

What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts’ desire.

If you missed last week’s beer news, you can check those out here. Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

Hardywood has a Vegan Pop Up tonight featuring the following vegan food trucks: Go Go Vegan GoHungry Turtle Food Truck, King Of Pops – Richmond, and River City Wood Fire Pizza.

On Saturday, Midnight Brewery will release the Midnight Reaper, an Imperial Stout uses chocolate, crystal, and carafa malts.

Castleburg Brewery will release Run The Gauntlet Pale Ale Series Challenge #6 – Faulconer’s Flight, on Friday. 6th in a series of 12 Pale Ales that are single malt, single hopped. This one is brewed with Faulconer’s Flight Hops, which is actually a blend of Citra, Simcoe and Sorachi Ace Hops.  Named after a homebrewer from Oregon, Glen Hay Faulconer, this blend was created to support his non-profit organization.

Triple Crossing has two releases at their Fulton location this Friday. First up, the All Neon Like 100% Galaxy IPA is back. Big notes of peach and orange are everywhere. The second beer for this Friday’s can release will be Waxing Poetic Berliner with Mango and Blackberry.

This Saturday, Strangeways Brewing will host Barktoberfest, which will benefit Richmond Animal Care and Control Foundation. FREE Event, donations accepted!, Family and Dog-Friendly, Adoptable Dogs from 12-4:30pm, Pet-related Vendors, RVA Food Trucks, pet costume contest and food and toy drive.

Final Gravity Brewing Co. will release Calypso, a DIPA with flavors of passionfruit and citrus on Friday.

On Thursday, Ardent Craft Ales will release Altbier, a traditional german pub ale made famous in Dusseldorf, Germany. This beer is a draft-only special, so we’ll be filling crowlers for you to take some home with you. Plus, Bikini Panini will be here serving up food

It’s $1 Oyster Night at the Veil Brewing Co. tonight featuring . Northern Neck Oysters.

Three Notch’d Brewing RVA Collab House returns this Thursday with a new brew, “Tom’s Tailgater Hoppy Blonde Ale”, made in partnership with “Tailgate for Timmy“. Oroceeds go to benefit St. Judes.

Blue Bee Bider is turning one and the cidery is celebrating in a BIG way Saturday. Sample one-off collabs with some of favorite food vendors in their #CollaborationCourtyard:- Back Creek Farms brandy barrel-aged maple syrup, – Bikini Panini, Cafe Zata & Dixie Donuts,– Jus Cukn, LLC BBQ, Lush Cupcakes,– King Of Pops – Richmond– Idle Hands Bread Company – FREE custom birthday cake from Shyndigz, art vendors, music and Blue Bee will unleash the new vintage of Harvest Ration, our apple brandy dessert cider collaboration with Catoctin Creek.

On Friday and Saturday, Center of the Universe will host an Oktoberfest celebration. This free event is open to all and will feature traditional LIVE GERMAN MUSIC, GERMAN FOOD, and GERMAN BEER! Prost!

COTU will also bring back its lovely, delicious, Pepperhoptas this Saturday. Pepperhopas is their traditional IPA, Pocahoptas, infused with Tibetan 7-pot yellow chili peppers from Village Garden.

Legend Brewing will release the Witch of Oak Hill Road this Thursday. a high gravity citrusy ale. Get the spooky details on the tale of the witch here.

The inaugural Blue Ribbon Craft Beer Fest will take place Oct. 7 from 2pm-7pm. Attendees will receive a souvenir tasting glass and enjoy unlimited 4 ounce tastings from over 30 Virginia craft breweries. This event is a partnership between the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild and State Fair of Virginia to celebrate the booming independent craft beer industry in the state and introduce a new audience to this unique agricultural product. Fest attendees will have the opportunity to interact with owners, brewers and representatives from throughout the commonwealth and enjoy their fantastic products while listening to live music. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the tent. State fair admission is not included. You must have admission to the State Fair to attend.

On Friday, the newly-opened Intermission Brewing Company in Henrico will release its Milk Stout

Oktoberfest celebrations are still going strong at Fine Creek in Powhatan. This weekend they will release their Bavarian Style Hefeweizen. They are also releasing their Tiger Yum Yum, Thai Tea Milk stout in special crowlers. Cook County Bluegrass will be playing on Saturday, and they will have an accordion player out on Sunday playing traditional German tunes in his lederhosen.  Autumn Grilled Pizzas will serve up homemade ricotta and root veggies and they will have Mini Schnitzel Sliders, and Brats on Pretzel buns with Sauerkraut.
