Hey RVA and all you craft beer lovers out there! It’s time for your next installment of “Tapped,” RVA Mag’s weekly beer column.

Hey RVA and all you craft beer lovers out there! It’s time for your next installment of “Tapped,” RVA Mag’s weekly beer column. This whole month is going to be extra special because August is….VIRGINIA CRAFT BEER MONTH!

This week we’ve brewed up quite a strong roundup for you, but first check out a few photos from what you missed last week: (Check out last week’s full roundup here.

So as I mentioned up top and if you’ve been living under a rock then let me inform you that last weekend kicked off Virginia Craft Beer Month. If you missed our post announcing it check that out here. Since there is so much going on we couldn’t fit it all into one post so RVA Mag decided to dedicate each week of “Tapped” to Virginia Craft Beer Month.

Each week, your cup will overflow with craft beer events, festivals, tap takeovers, beer releases, or whatever happens to be going on. And not just in Richmond either, all around the state! I’ll do my best to collect it all, but let me know if there’s something you’d like to see in here.

With that, let’s tap this thing.

Many bars are doing all VA beers on tap for the whole month of August. Brown Distributing has a pretty good list of them which you can check out here.

Hardywood is celebrating VA Craft Beer month with specials on all of their inventory of their Reserve Series and Barrel Series bottles to go.

On Saturday, the Hardywood will be kicking it hardcore with the guys from GWAR with the GWAR B-Q GW-After Party. You and all your hellions can take a shuttle from Hadad’s Lake to the brewery and let the Creep-A-Zoids, Left Cross, and Today is the Day bust your ear drums.

On Friday, Midnight Brewing in Rockville will release its Brewery Batch #4, a 7 percent brown ale with pecans!

The 4th Annual Brew BQ Festival is going down at the 17th Street Farmers Market on Sunday, Aug. 16. It will feature 17 Virginia breweries and an array of central Virginia’s most loved barbeque producers. 12-5 pm. Free.

This Thursday, Mekong will bring over Bill Cavender of Black Heath Meadery along with Good Morning Meadkong…a kick ass coffee mead!

Every Thursday for VA Craft Beer Month, Three Notch’d Brewing Company in Charlottesville will tap a new brew. This week, its “ I Want o Ride My Pineapple” Radler.

Isley Brewing is hosting the first annual RVA Pinball City Championship this Sunday. Entry is $5. Prizes for 1st-3rd place. 12-6 pm. Check out our story on RVA Pinball here.

Isley Brewing will also host a Mexican BBQ beer dinner on Sunday with Nacho Mama’s Bar & Grill on the Boulevard from 4 to 8 pm. Dinner will feature four Isley brews. $35.

This Friday, Strangeways Brewing is hosting Books, Brews, and Boos, where Red Vein Army and Mr. Scream Freak, will introduce seven of the regions most thrilling writers. Participate in trivia, win prizes and drink delicious beer. 8 pm.

Strangeways is also celebrating EVERYDAY IN AUGUST with extended steal the vessel series. You only have to pay for the fill and get your Growler, Grunt, CANable, or Blue Ball Mason Jar for FREE. Bring your vessel back in for refill specials everyday!

Triple Crossing will bring back Clever Girl, a dry American IPA this Friday. The brewery will release a limited amount of (500 ML) bottles.

On Monday, Ardent Craft Ales is throwing a beer dinner at Amuse Restauant at the VMFA. Five courses and six Ardent brews!

BadWolf Brewing Company will open its second location in Manassas on Friday! Four beers will be on tap with more to follow!


James River Brewery in Scottsville will release The Green Eyed Lady, a Belgian Golden Strong Ale on Friday, Aug. 14.

Old BustHead Brewing in Warrenton will celebrate its one year anniversary pint of our NEW Marzen style Oktoberfest. There will be happy hour specials, live music and food!

“Tapped” runs every Wednesday and will be filled with news about your local craft breweries, event, festivals, new beer releases and everything we think you need to know about the craft beer scene before you head into your weekend!
