Unconventional Brooklyn indie band Friend Roulette are heralding their arrival at RVA’s Gallery 5 tonight with the premiere of a brand new song from their upcoming album–and it’s got a mysterious allure that just can’t be denied. Friend Roulette include a wide variety of instrumentation in their lineup, and all of it gets brought to bear upon the spooky hooks of “Strange Girl”–the clarinet lines of John Stanesco in particular are distinctive and catchy. But of course, it’s Julia Tepper’s gorgeous vocals that will keep you riveted throughout the song’s five-minute length. See for yourself (and if you like it, click through to grab a free download):

Friend Roulette’s forthcoming album will be titled I. See You. Your eyes are red., and it is slated for release on Goodnight Records in March 2015. The album was recorded by Julian Fader and Carlos Hernandez of fellow unconventional Brooklyn indie rockers Ava Luna, and was mixed by Sam Owens of Celestial Shore.

Tonight’s show at Gallery 5 (which will also feature sets from Richmond’s own Manatree and Recluse Raccoon) is just the beginning of Friend Roulette’s current two-week tour, which will bring them back to Richmond on December 10, accompanied by Tiny Hazard, for a show at The Compound. That’s a house-show venue, so I can’t tell you where it is, but as the saying goes, “ask a punk.” Friend Roulette’s full tour schedule is below.
